PDQScreen ControllerTM
Bring Speed and Color to Your Instrument
The PDQScreenTM Controller combines a C-programmable single-board computer with a touch-sensitive graphical user interface. Designed as a fully-functional compact industrial PC powered by a Motorola HCS12 microprocessor, the PDQScreen brings color to your front panel, dramatically increases processing speed, and cuts the cost of data acquisition and instrument control.
It's ideal for OEM applications such as embedded systems, scientific instruments, robotics, and portable data acquisition. The PDQScreen can be commanded remotely from a PC or used stand-alone, providing real-time control of dozens of analog and digital I/O lines.
Configurable Graphical User Interface
The PDQScreen Controller sports a graphical user interface (GUI) on a 5.7" diagonal high-contrast 320x240 pixel display with a touchscreen overlay. It comes complete with object-oriented menuing software that makes it easy to control your application using buttons, menus, graphs, and bitmapped pictures.
Display your own custom graphics on a monochrome LCD or a bright color STN or TFT display. You can create hundreds of sophisticated screens including your company logo, system diagrams, and icon-based control panels using most Windows paint programs, such as PC Paintbrush. Your application program and startup screens execute automatically on power-up.
Put Your Instrument Online
Use Mosaic's EtherSmart Wildcard, a 2x2.5" modular board to web-enable your PDQScreen. The Ethersmart Wildcard enables communications between your instrument and other computers or peripherals via a Local Area Network (LAN) using the standard packet-based Ethernet signaling protocol. Simply plug a standard Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 jack on the Wildcard, and your instrument can communicate with other computers on a Local Area Network (LAN). Your application program can send emails to alert other computers on the network when significant events occur. You can even "browse into" your instrument using a browser running on an online PC to monitor the status of your instrument.
Easily Programmed in C or Forth
The PDQScreen is easily programmed in C, Forth or Assembly using any PC. Built-in programming tools include a multitasking executive and comprehensive device-driver libraries. All functions can be called interactively from the terminal to speed the debugging process. Moreover, the processor implements a Background Debug Mode (BDM) in hardware that facilitates real-time debugging. A low-cost attachment to your desktop PC connects to the BDM header on the board, enabling you to set breakpoints, single step, and trace to diagnose your program at runtime.
A Powerful Controller with Plenty of Memory
The PDQScreen hosts a fast Motorola 68HCS12 microprocessor. This controller has a 16-bit data bus and uses a Phase Locked Loop to synthesize a 40MHz internal clock and 20MHz bus clock, resulting in execution speeds 8 times faster than the 8-bit 68HC11 processor. The processor's 1 MByte address space is populated by 512K internal Flash, 14K internal RAM, and 1K available internal EEPROM, plus 496 Kbytes of fast off-chip RAM. The RAM is "shadowed" by external Flash that acts like an onboard disk drive, restoring your program code to Flash memory each time the board is powered up. This flexible memory architecture allows for both RAM- and Flash-intensive applications. Developing programs is a snap!
Dozens of Analog, Digital and Timer I/O Lines
The PDQScreen packs dozens of analog and digital I/O lines plus versatile serial communications links onto a compact board. It delivers 8 digital I/O lines with counter/timer capabilities, 12 pulse-width modulated (PWM) digital output signals, and 8 general purpose digital I/O lines. Additional I/O includes sixteen analog inputs with 10-bit resolution, dual RS232/485 ports with speeds to 256 KBaud, and synchronous SPI and IIC (I2C) serial interfaces. Any of the digital I/O ports can be configured for general purpose I/O, and the analog input lines can be configured as digital inputs. An optional battery-backed real-time clock reports the time and date.
Need even more I/O?
The PDQScreen Controller hosts Mosaic's WildcardsTM, small stackable I/O modules for sophisticated and dedicated I/O. Stack up to seven Wildcards for: 16- or 24-bit resolution programmable gain A/D; 12-bit D/A; compact flash mass memory; opto-isolated AC or DC solid state relays; configurable digital I/O; additional RS232, RS422 or RS485; or high-voltage, high-current DC inputs and outputs. To communicate with the PDQScreen via USB, add a USB to RS232 adapter (Part No. ADAP-USBRS).
Need Protection from Aggressive Environment?
Consider our Environmental Gasket to provide a tight, chemically resistant seal between your touchscreen and bezel and to prevent infiltration of dust or liquids.
